PICO RIVERA – Investigators on Monday were searching for an assailant who killed a man at a home in Pico Rivera early Sunday morning, sheriff’s officials said. The shooting happened at about 12:45 a.m. Sunday in the 9000 block of Rex Road, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Luis Castro of the Sheriff’s Headquarters Bureau. The man’s name was not released by sheriff’s officials Monday. He was declared dead at the scene. No arrests had been made as of Monday, Castro added. While Castro declined to comment on the circumstances surrounding the shooting, one neighbor, who asked to remain anonymous out of fear of reprisals, said the victim had been part of a group of people who tried to crash an after-prom party at the home. The neighbor said he heard as many as 20 successive gunshots. He said he and his family scrambled for cover, ducking to the floor until the shooting stopped. He also said the neighborhood, where he has lived for the past four years, is normally very quiet. He described the family who live in the home where the shooting occurred as “a very nice family.” [email protected] last_img
