GPL Review: Kotoko search for win, Hearts held but Samuel Tetteh dominates headlines

Here’s the summary.Kotoko 2-2 MedeamaAsante Kotoko and Medeama are winless Match Day 3 of the Ghana Premier League after a 2-2 draw between both sides at the Baba Yara Stadium. Kotoko twice took the lead but were on both occasions pegged back by stunners as the Tarkwa side gained their first point after three games.Benett Ofori opened the scoring after he benefited from a mistake from goalkeeper Michael Sai to slot home into an empty net.The goal did not deter Medeama as they equalized minutes before the break when Malik Akowuah scored with an absolute beauty of a free kick.New signing Michael Yeboah restored Kotoko’s lead after being gifted the ball but substitute  Bismack Oppong saved the best for the last home thumping home the leveler from distance.–Wa All Stars 0-0 Liberty  Liberty Professionals earned a hard fought point from All Stars after holding them to a 0-0 draw at the Wa ParkAll Stars were playing hoping to grab all three points to extend their hundred per cent record but could not manage to break down the visitors defence despite the presence of Joel Famayeh. Liberty tried a number of times to win the game but All Stars also defended gallantly. The hosts still remain unbeaten and yet to concede a goal. Bechem United continued their fine home run with 1-0 victory over New Edubiase United at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park .Aminu Mohammed got the match winner to hand all three points to the home side in the 69th minute when the game was heading towards a barren draw. Aminu Mohammed’s shot from distance deflected to beat goalie Benjamin Mensah.–Dwarfs 0-0 Hearts The Phobians maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a hard fought 0-0 draw game to Cape Coast Ebusua Dwarfs.There was so much at stake for both sides as they played an intriguing game infront of an expectant crowd.J.E Sarpong sprung a surprise leaving division one goal king Bright Lukman on the bench.Dwarfs began the game well and dominated possession but failed to carve an opening by a well marshalled Hearts defence.Hearts grew in confidence as the game wore on but chances were few and far between both sides.A point well taken for both sides._ WAFA 5-0 HasaacasGhana winger Samuel Tetteh became the first player to score a hat-trick in the 2016 Ghana Premier League season as he helped WAFA thrash Sekondi Hasaacas 5-0 defeat at Sogakope Park.Charles Boateng registered his second goal of the campaign on the brink of halftime after the Sogakope side had dominated possession for large portions.Gideon Waja added the second just after halftime after a fine interplay by the youngsters. Samuel Tetteh then took center stage bagging a hat-trick in the space of 30 minutes His first came after a brilliant individual solo run,before being set up to score his second and third.Stephen Manu headed home the only goal of the game as Techiman City posted  a 1-0 win over Aduana Stars at the Ohene Ameyaw Park in Techiman. The 28-year-old forward scored the solitary goal of the game late in the first-half but missing from the spot.City were presented with a huge opportunity to put themselves ahead but Stephen Manu who was playing his maiden game for the debutantes fired his effort into the crossbar. But the former Asante Kotoko atoned for his penalty miss when he cruised the noisy City fans into a chanting mood when he rose above two Aduana defenders to plant a firm header into Stephen Adams’ net.Aduana are now rock bottom after three defeats. –Inter Allies 2-2 Dreams FCDreams FC preserved their unbeaten run after holding Inter Allies to a 2-2 stalemate at the Tema Sports StadiumPromising striker Lawrence Bekui scored a brace in either half but a Inter Allies rallied from behind on both occasions with goals coming from Evans Mensah and former Asante Kotoko midfielder Prince Baffoe. The game which was attended by Black Stars coach Avram Grnat produced fine blend of attacking football. Inter Allies will however feel let down after missing a penalty when Mozart Adjetey saved Wahab Ackwei’s kick._AshGold 0-0 Chelsea (Saturday)  The Len Clay Stadium gave this season’s Ghana top flight its first goalless draw when AshGold hosted Berekum Chelsea. It will be a decent result from the Blues, who now have four points from three games. AshGold came into the game with some changes to the side that lost 3-1 in Algeria last Sunday in the Caf Champions League qualifier. Key among them was the benching of Ghana goalie Fatau Dauda. The game was characterised by very poor finishing by both teams but Chelsea will be happy with the exuberance of former Ghana starlet Sadick Adams. Also of note was the prowess of AshGold goalkeeper Ahmed Tijani. Next for Chelsea will be a home game against Kotoko.
