A pastor of one of the evangelical churches in Dominica has called for the civic leaders and other spiritual leaders to play a meaningful role in mentoring the islands youth.Pastor of the Trinity Baptist Church Randy Rodney made this call during the launching of Ebenezer Praise Ministry’s “Glorious One” CD. Rodney told Thursday’s launching ceremony that the completion of the project is “testament” of how the correct environment and encouragement can lead to success. “The provision of an enabling environment can produced enhanced capacity, channel positive energy and lead to the growth and success of people; especially I might add our young people”. Rodney noted that in order for the island to be successful and get more young people engaged in positive projects like Ebenezer Praise Ministry which is part of his church, more focus and attention must be placed on mentoring the youth.“I therefore call on both spiritual, civic leaders in Dominica to be very mindful of the type of leadership that we provide for our youth. Remember that in the development of a productive, peaceful nation we must be careful to be serious catalyst in the morality”. Rodney submitted that “sound conscience formation, paying attention to biblical principles of hard work with the wholesome individual in view” must be provided to attain a productive nation.“We must take time to provide mentorship for our youth and I emphasize and underscore mentorship. I say that because some of us are good at talking some people say it is because we have a parrot on our flag; we are a talking people; we are not an acting people”.He suggested that leaders should take on the responsibility of mentoring young people one on one which he thinks is the most effective method. “I ask that our leaders take time to mentor our young people not just create talk shops through rallies, services and conferences but seriously take on individuals personally to pass on our good values to them for if we don’t somebody else will. In fact, because we aren’t doing that other people are”. He advised citizens to “be Jesus” by visiting “the nooks and crannies of our society with the sole intention of affecting people one on one”. According to Rodney, the launching of Ebenezer Praise Ministry’s CD is “largely a result of mentoring more than speaking”. He noted that the project is “testament that no job is too difficult to be successful at and that opposition can definitely be used as a stepping stone to progress”.
