Senior Brian Mattingly tallied nine goals over two games to lead the Rams (13-5) to victories over Buena and El Modena, and in the process, advanced to the quarterfinals today. In the first game against Buena, Mattingly scored three and Scott Butler led the team with four. Los Alamitos 6, Mira Costa 3 Junior attacker Byron Markel scored four goals and senior 2-meter offense Clayton Snyder had four assists as the Griffins (16-6) won in nonleague competition. Cerritos 20, La Habra 9 Dan Biag had seven goals and Torrence Lee added three as the Dons (19-2) rolled to a victory in nonleague play. Jan-Michael Pineda and John Chao each tallied two goals for Cerritos. Downey 9, La Serna 5 Jarret Powers scored five times while David Correa and Sean Feliciano each had two goals as the host Vikings (9-4) topped the Lancers in nonleague play. Goalie Alan Navarez had seven saves for Downey. GIRLS VOLLEYBALL Wilson 3, Bakersfield Stockdale 0; Clovis Buchanan 3, Wilson 2 Junior opposite Elise Hendrickson had 29 kills, 26 digs and four aces and senior opposite Stephanie Barry had 29 kills and 33 digs as the Bruins (16-7, 9-0) split two matches at the Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions. Wilson opened the tournament with a 25-24, 25-17, 25-22 win against Bakersfield Stockdale, but fell in five games in its second match 20-25, 28-26, 20-25, 25-15, 19-17. Wilson faces La Costa Canyon today at 9 a.m. Mayfair 3, Glenn 0 Outside hitter Jill Sorem led the way with 18 kills and 10 digs as the Monsoons (11-8, 8-1) won the Suburban League match, 25-17, 25-12, 25-18. Setter Kelly Hasenjager contributed 31 assists for Mayfair. La Mirada 3, Bellflower 1 Outside hitter Katie Smith had five kills as the Matadores (11-4, 7-2) beat the visiting Buccaneers 23-25, 25-22, 25-16, 25-15 in a Suburban League match. Norwalk 3, Artesia 0 In her first action at middle blocker, junior Krystal Jarrett came up big with five blocks as the Lancers (8-8, 4-4) won the Suburban League match 25-23, 25-20, 25-19. GIRLS TENNIS Gahr 13, Lynwood 5 Mallory Wang and Ellen Chiu each went 3-0 in singles to lead the first-place Gladiators (12-4, 9-0), ranked 10th in CIF Division III, past the Knights (2-7) in San Gabriel Valley League play.
