23 DEFY gymnasts qualify for Regionals

first_imgLEWISTON — Thirty-three gymnasts representing the Down East Family YMCA took to the floor at Lewiston Armory last weekend for the YMCA State Championships.More than 300 gymnasts from nine YMCA programs across Maine competed at the event. DEFY gymnasts, who train at Springers Gymnastics Center in Ellsworth, competed in Levels 3 through 7 as well as in the Excel division.“This was the meet we’ve been training for all year, and we feel like they all peaked at the right time,” DEFY coach Doug Springer said. “The competition was very tough, but our girls did their best, and we saw some great success.”Some meet highlights included the performances of all-around state champions Elena Springer at Level 4 and Kajsa Brown-Morrison at Level 5. Along with the all-around win, Elena Springer was the vault champion.
