Jury trials are set to resume in Broome County next week

first_imgWhen a witness testifies, in order to see their face, they will wear some type of face shield or maintain proper distance from others. Michael Korchak, Broome County District Attorney, says this will be a new experience for everyone. BINGHAMTON (WBNG) — Jury trials are set to resume in Broome County on Monday and the selection process is changing. Korchak says he anticipates jury selection will be drawn out over the course of a few days. To limit the number of people in the courtroom, jurors will come into the courtroom in shifts. They’ll be in groups of 20 to 25, socially distant and wearing masks. In the courtroom, Plexiglas separates jurors and attorneys. “Everyone has a right to a jury trial, jury of their peers,” Korchak said. “We’re looking forward to getting back to the swing of things shortly.” “Lower level trials with less jurors will probably take two, if not three days, to select the jury,” Korchak said. “Just to be safe and to make sure we follow the proper protocols.”last_img read more

South African nation mourns the passing of Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela

first_imgJohannesburg, Friday 6 December 2013 – Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela, South Africa’s former President who dedicated his life to the country’s struggle for human rights, freedom and the fight for democracy, passed away last night at the age of 95.Brand South Africa Chairperson Chichi Maponya joins the nation, leaders from across the world and the broader international community, in expressing deep sorrow at the passing of former President Nelson Mandela saying, “Madiba embodied our hopes and the realisation of our dreams.”“We are in deep mourning following this loss of indescribable magnitude which is today reverberating across the world. During his imprisonment for 27 years, Madiba carried the aspirations of multitudes of our people who yearned for a free and democratic South Africa. He inspired South Africans and people around the world alike to fight for South Africa’s liberation despite the seeming impossibility of this vision.”“One of the greatest gifts he has bequeathed to this nation is the courage and strength to believe in a tomorrow that is better than today, a tomorrow in which our people live in dignity and prosperity.”“He lived these ideals and brought them to life during his leadership of the country. He has inspired thousands of people to make these same values a part of their lives even when he left public office.”“To many, Nelson Mandela will be remembered as the greatest statesman in the world. His voice and inspirational leadership has contributed enormously to the global fight for democracy and human rights and this has touched millions of people far beyond the borders of our country.”“It is now up to each of us to carry this work forward, to play our part to ensure his legacy endures and South Africa continues to inspire triumph over seemingly insurmountable challenges. As South Africa marks 20 years of democracy, we must continue the work of Madiba – the work of building a society in which all our people enjoy the best that South Africa has to offer, freedom from want, prosperity and development.”“We join the nation and the world in conveying our deepest condolences to the Mandela family. We also offer our immense gratitude and appreciation for sharing Tata with us. We join millions in praying that Madiba’s soul may rest in peace. Lala Ngoxolo Tata,” concluded Ms Maponya.Note to editorsText of President Zuma’s official statement on the passing of Former President Nelson Mandela: http://www.thepresidency.gov.za/index.htmOfficial dedicated Mandela website: http://www.mandela.gov.za/About Brand South AfricaBrand South Africa is the official marketing agency of South Africa, with a mandate to build the country’s brand reputation, in order to improve its global competitiveness abroad. Google’s Newest Mobile Search Feature is a Thing of Beauty

first_imgRelated Posts Why IoT Apps are Eating Device Interfaces Tags:#Google#mobile#search#web Google Mobile Search added a new feature today that lets users search for stock ticker symbols and see their results in a beautiful, structured interface that scrolls horizontally to display different kinds of results. It would be awesome to see this kind of mobile search interface rolled out beyond search for stocks. It wouldn’t be the first time a technical innovation jumped from Google Finance to the rest of Google. If you’re on an iPhone or an up to date Android phone, go to Google.com in your browser and try search queries like GOOG, AAPL, NYT or YHOO. You’ll see the whole screen fill up with a chart that lets you view stock price changes over varying timeframes. Swipe right (who ever thought to swipe on a Google mobile search results page?) and you’ll see News Search results for the company you searched for. Swipe again and you’ll see charts for the 3 leading markets, once more and you’ll see a nice chart that lets you compare all the companies you’ve searched for recently. It’s beautiful!Back in 2008, Google Finance was the first place that real-time data updates appeared on the site. Real-time is now a big part of the entire Google search experience. Could there come a day when all mobile searches let you swipe left and right to see different types of search results and even a chart of your recent search queries? I don’t find that hard to imagine at all. marshall kirkpatrickcenter_img What it Takes to Build a Highly Secure FinTech … Role of Mobile App Analytics In-App Engagement The Rise and Rise of Mobile Payment Technologylast_img read more
